Outdoors Club
If one of your goals for the New Year is to get more physical, then Windham Newcomers & Friends has just the thing. Our Outdoors Club activities are loaded with action-packed adventures that we guarantee will leave you feeling fit and refreshed.
The Outdoors Club meets weekly for a wide variety of low-to-moderate impact activities. New activities are added each year, and they can be modified to suit all participants. For example, if you don't own snow shoes, boots will do just fine.
This season, the Outdoors Club has planned several local and state hikes and walks, downhill and cross-country ski trips, and scenic snowshoeing travels, along with a wide variety of other activities and action-packed adventures.
Here's a look at just some of the group's adventures this season.
To kick things off, Outdoors hit the trails with its first fall hike in October, at Benson's Wild Animal Park in Hudson, NH. It was a great day for a hike, and the view of the lakes along the 2.5 mile Haselton Trail was magnificent!
In January, 2011, members ventured out to Gunstock Ski Resort and braved the cold, sub zero temps for some fresh air and exercise! It was sunny and the views of Lake Winnipesaukee were magnificent!
Coming up in February, the group has planned to Cross Country ski at the Atkinson Country Club. They rents skis and have many different types of trails to explore.
The winter outdoor activities are endless this time of year. We have been busy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and downhill skiing. Come join the adventures with us! You can also walk with Newcomers on Thursdays, 9:30 a.m., along the Rail Trail (April through November).
To join Newcomers, please contact our membership coordinator Sharon Masse at Smasse1@yahoo.com.
